OUR ENGLISH WINE PRODUCERS

A true pioneer, Nyetimber was the first producer
of English sparkling wine to exclusively grow the three celebrated grape varieties: Chardonnay,
Pinot Noir, and Pinot Meunier. Its vineyards today are spread across Sussex, Hampshire and Kent,
with each location providing unique characteristics to the final wines.

Harlot aims to shake up the status quo and redefine English wine with charm and some

Still wines account for around one third of English wine production
and there is a growing market for still wine produced in Britain.
As vineyards mature and winemakers extend their scope of winemaking,
there is no reason why Britain cannot challenge the rest of the world, particularly as more recognisable varieties become mainstream.
At the same time, as many restaurants and hotels build their reputation
on sourcing local ingredients, they can too do so with English wines,
which are greatly suited to many seasonal dishes.
THE CASE FOR STILL
The English wine producers featured in our portfolio
are exemplary in their commitment to sustainability.
Through practices such as minimal intervention winemaking,
conservation of biodiversity, and energy efficiency, they prioritise environmental stewardship while producing exceptional wines.
EYE ON SUSTAINABILITY
Most English wines are sparkling and are produced using the Traditional Method. Typically, the three Champagne grapes are used (Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier). These three varieties represent over 70% of all vines planted in the UK.
English sparkling wine grows in popularity every year. It now stands
as the second largest volume driver of sparkling wine in the GB On Trade.
On-trade volumes of English sparkling wine
are up +6.4% year-on-year.
A perfect alternative to Champagne and often at a more inviting price point, English wines are also a great recommendation to suggest to customers who are seeking more eco-friendly drinks when out
in the trade.
SPARKLING:
A CAUSE FOR CELEBRATION
English wine has witnessed a surge in popularity over recent years and today is particularly renowned
for its elegant sparkling varieties. The cool climate, chalky soils, and sustainable viticulture practices
contribute to high-quality wine production.
With sparkling wines receiving international acclaim and holding their own amongst the finest Champagnes,
and exciting still wines coming to the fore, English wines are fast becoming a force to be reckoned with.
From the charm and audacious spirit of Harlot’s wines to the innovative production at Balfour Winery,
the range of this small but perfectly formed wine region is continuously evolving
and an exciting one to explore.
